10 a.m. - Noon

Save the Date! Saturday morning over Labor Day weekend, a special group of individuals enter the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum. It is a group that has a direct “connection” to the building’s past, the legendary cars that were created here and to the people who built them. These “Connecting Rods” are the only personal link the museum has to the employees that made the classic Auburn, Cord and Duesenberg automobiles that are relished worldwide.
“Connecting Rods” are family members of those who were employed at Auburn Automobile Company, Duesenberg, Inc. or Dallas Winslow’s Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Company. “Connecting Rods” can be children of former employees, grandchildren, neices, nephews, distant cousins or close acquaintances.

The gathering allows the museum to keep this history alive, more than 70 years after the company closed its doors by preserving the stories and memories of former employees through storytelling.

During the event each “Connecting Rod” will have the opportunity to share stories about their family members and their experiences with the companies. Those who have knowledge of their family member and their employment with either company, share entertaining and educational stories. It is a great opportunity to remember loved ones who were employed by Auburn Automobile Company, Duesenberg, Inc. or Dallas Winslow's Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Company. At the same time, it helps educate those who do not have that kind of knowledge about their own loved one.

To attend, “Connecting Rods” don’t have to know much about their connections’ employment with the companies, or even their jobs. Many family members show up and have very little information to go on. They just know their family member worked for the company at one time, and are surprised at what they are able to learn.
The Auburn Automobile Company Connecting Rods Lunch will be followed with a presentation by Jon Bill, director of education and archives, about "Exports: Auburn's Global Impact." There will also be time for all of those who have stories to tell related to Auburn Automobile Company, Duesenberg, Inc., Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Company or their employees.

Lunch cost is $15 per person for 2012.   If you would like to attend, please make reservations by Friday, August 22 by calling Jan Schippers at (260) 925-1444. If you would like to register to become a Connecting Rod please click here or call the Business Office at the number above to receive and fill out a Connecting Rods application form.
