1 - 3 p.m.

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum is once again calling all cowboys, ghouls, witches, clowns, princesses and other costumed children, ages 14 years and under, to “Trunk or Treat” at the museum on Sunday, October 26 from 1 – 3 p.m. This FREE event is open to the public, but parents must be accompanied by their children. In past years, this popular event brought nearly 1,000 people to the museum, “I can honestly say the event was as much fun for the staff as it was for the children that came to play games and fill their bags filled with goodies,” said Kendra Klink, chief operating officer. “This event draws in a younger crowd for the museum and for some it is their first time visiting the museum and seeing these colorful automobiles. It is great to see how they react to these classic automobiles in this setting. Of course, the free candy and treats make it even better,” jokes Klink.

“Trunk or Treat” is a popular museum event designed to give parents a safe place to take their children “Trick or Treating.” Rather than going house to house to get candy treats, they go car to car and “Trunk or Treat” with museum volunteers and staff members at select cars throughout the museum. The museum galleries will remain open during the event providing trunk or treaters an opportunity to see what the museum has to offer while treating their families to a tour of the museum during the free event. “This is a great alternative to traditional ‘Trick or Treating’ and gives parents and kids a chance to enjoy the museum as well,” said Laura Brinkman, museum executive director/CEO. “At the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, we realize that children are the museum's future, and we want them to think of the museum as a life-long place of learning and fun. Having events like ‘Trunk or Treat’ allows the museum to make that connection,” stated Brinkman.

An activity room will be available for the children to enjoy during the event. “There will be something here for every age group. Bring your kids and their friends to this free event. Come for the candy and stay for the cars. Your kids will thank you!” said Klink.

The Museum is looking for product donors for this popular event. If your company would like to get involved and donate product, gift certificates, or samples for Trunk or Treat, please call the museum at (260) 925-1444 for more information.

Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum presents

the August Automobile of the Month:

1930 Cord L-29 Cabriolet

Each month the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum designates one of its automobiles to be the Automobile of the Month.  Visitors are able to pick up and take home with them a full page of information about the spotlight automobile.  The August 2014 Automobile of the Month is a 1930 Cord L-29 Cabriolet, graciously on loan to the museum from Ken and Tuyet Clark of Pittsfield, Maine.

Stylist Alan Leamy, whose automotive designs tended to be forward-thinking, was hired by Auburn Automobile Company in 1928 to give its Auburn models a fresh look.  Afterwards, he styled the Cord L-29.  With front-wheel drive and a bracing X-frame, Leamy paid homage to this car’s racy, low-slung build by highlighting it with a sleek and fast look.

The Cord L-29 is powered by an 198.6 cubic-inch straight-eight engine that produces 125 horsepower.  Its wheelbase measures 137.5 inches and the vehicle weighs 4,300 pounds.  New, this car sold for $3,295.
