(AUBURN) – Big news has come to the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum in the form of a 1st place NAAMY award from the National Association of Automobile Museums in the category of books and exhibit catalogs. The prestigious award is a result of the release of the new book, Cocktails of The Auburn Automobile Company: A Collection of Mixed Drinks.
The annual NAAMY awards, held by the National Association of Automobile Museums are a competition that honors the work of nonprofit automotive transportation museums. The award recognizes industry leaders for achievement, professionalism and creativity. They are designed to further promote professionalism in automotive museum managerial, curatorial, educational and promotional work.
This innovative book was created by Museum Education Manager and Curatorial Assistant Joan Eardly. “The book contains a selection of different cocktail recipes focusing on specific elements of the Auburn Automobile Company such as cars and key figures in the company’s history,” stated Eardly. “The recipes incorporate both original and well-known cocktails with an Auburn Automobile Company twist.”
Original cocktails contained in the book include: “The Stop & Glow” a multicolored layered gin martini drink, designed by Events Manager Alishia Iddings, the drink was inspired by innovator Gordon Buehrig, designer of the 1936 Cord 810/812 automobile; the “Flathead Fuel;” the “Jimmy Murphy Special,” an Irish influenced drink, dedicated to the successful Duesenberg racecar driver Jimmy Murphy. Other well-known cocktails included have an Auburn Automobile Company style, such as a Manhattan that makes use of E.L. Cord’s favorite whiskey, and a take on an Old Fashioned that draws inspiration from 1929 Cord L-29 automobile designer Alan H. Leamy.
